Author Guidelines for Submitting Articles to Essentials of Frontline Medicine Journal (EFMJ)

Welcome to Essentials of Frontline Medicine Journal (EFMJ), a peer-reviewed academic journal dedicated to advancing knowledge in the field of Family Medicine and embracing contributions from all medical disciplines. We invite authors to submit original research, review articles, case reports, commentaries, and other relevant works. Please adhere to the following guidelines when preparing your submission.


1. Manuscript Categories

We accept submissions in the following categories:

  • Original Research Articles: Empirical studies presenting new findings (up to 4,000 words).
  • Systematic Review, Meta-Analysis, Review Articles: Comprehensive syntheses of current knowledge (up to 7,000 words).
  • Case Reports: Detailed analyses of clinical cases that provide unique insights (up to 2,000 words).
  • Commentaries and Perspectives: Short, opinion-driven discussions on topical issues (up to 1,500 words).
  • Letters to the Editor: Brief observations or critiques of published articles (up to 1,000 words).

2. General Formatting Requirements

  • Language: Manuscripts must be written in English.
  • File Format: Submit manuscripts as Microsoft Word documents (.docx) or LaTeX files.
  • Font and Spacing: Use 12-point Times New Roman font, single-spaced, with 1-inch margins on all sides.
  • Structure: Organize the manuscript into the following sections: Title Page, Abstract, Main Text, References.

3. Title Page

The title page should include:

  • Title of the manuscript (concise and descriptive).
  • Author names and affiliations.
  • Corresponding author’s name, email address, and phone number.
  • Acknowledgments, if any.
  • Funding sources.
  • Conflicts of interest disclosure.
  • Ethical Approval statement.

4. Abstract and Keywords

  • Abstract: Provide a structured abstract (250 words maximum) with headings: Background, Methods, Results, and Conclusions.
  • Keywords: List 4–6 keywords relevant to the article’s content.

5. Main Text

For Original Research Articles:

  • Introduction: State the study’s objectives and significance.
  • Methods: Describe the study design, population, and analytical methods.
  • Results: Present findings clearly and succinctly.
  • Discussion: Interpret results in context, noting limitations and implications.
  • Conclusion: Summarize key findings and suggest future directions.

For Other Categories:

  • Structure content logically, ensuring clarity and coherence.

6. References

  • Format references using Vancouver style.

  • Cite all references numerically in the order they appear in the text.

  • Provide complete reference details in the reference list. Examples of Vancouver style references are as follows:

Journal Articles

  1. Author(s). Title of article. Abbreviated Title of Journal. Year;Volume(Issue):Page range.
    Example: Smith J, Brown P. Impact of family medicine on public health. Fam Med J. 2023;45(3):123-130.

Books

  1. Author(s). Title of book. Edition (if not the first). Place of publication: Publisher; Year.
    Example: Johnson A. Principles of Primary Care. 2nd ed. New York: Academic Press; 2020.

Book Chapters

  1. Author(s). Title of chapter. In: Editor(s), editor(s). Title of book. Edition. Place of publication: Publisher; Year. p. Page range.
    Example: Green T. Strategies in rural healthcare. In: Lee P, editor. Advances in Family Medicine. 3rd ed. Boston: Health Press; 2021. p. 45-60.

Online Resources

  1. Author(s). Title of document. [Internet]. Place of publication: Publisher; Date of publication [cited Year Month Day]. Available from: URL
    Example: World Health Organization. Primary health care. [Internet]. Geneva: WHO; 2022 [cited 2024 Mar 15]. Available from: https://www.who.int/primary-health-care


7. Tables and Figures

All illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.

  • Tables: Number tables consecutively. Include titles and legends.
  • Figures: Submit high-resolution images in .jpeg, .png, or .tiff formats.
  • Ensure all tables and figures are cited in the main text.

8. Ethical Considerations

  • Ensure compliance with the Declaration of Helsinki and other relevant ethical guidelines.
  • For studies involving human participants, provide IRB or ethics committee approval.
  • Include a statement of informed consent where applicable.
  • Authors should also complete a checklist appropriate to their study type following Equator Network guidelines (e.g., STROBE for observational studies, CONSORT for randomized trials).


9. Submission Process

  • Submit manuscripts through our online submission portal.
  • Include a cover letter briefly describing the manuscript’s significance and suitability for the journal.
  • Authors will receive a confirmation email upon successful submission.
  • Complete Copyright Transfer Form by filling in all required fields, obtaining signatures from all authors, and submitting it along with your manuscript to the Essentials of Frontline Medicine Journal.


10. Peer Review and Publication

  • All submissions undergo double-blind peer review.
  • Decisions (accept, revise, or reject) will be communicated within 4–8 weeks.
  • Accepted articles will be published online first, followed by inclusion in the next available issue.
