Abstract

Musculoskeletal disorders prevalent in the elderly lead to chronic pain and functional limitations, reducing quality of life, and the side effects of systemic medications pose a significant problem. Therefore, mesotherapy, as an alternative or complementary treatment method involving local injection of low-dose medications, is gaining increasing attention. Studies report the analgesic efficacy of mesotherapy in lumbar and cervical pain, osteoarthritis, tendinopathies, and myofascial pain syndromes, but also report local side effects and, although rare, systemic side effects. In conclusion, while mesotherapy can provide symptomatic relief in elderly patients, standardized protocols, appropriate patient selection, and large-scale randomized trials determining long-term safety are needed.
